Our History

John Hill CoppedgeDr. John Hill Coppedge moved to Brooksville in 1955.  He started his adventure with his wife Josephine, son John, and daughters Carol, Mary Kay, and Joan.  Dr. Coppedge was born in South Carolina, but raised in Plant City, Florida.  He graduated from Turkey Creek High School.  He served in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmacists's Mate during World War II.  He was a graduate of the University of Tampa in 1949.  He moved to Memphis, Tennessee to attend the Southern College of Optometry, where he graduated in 1954.  He began to practice in downtown Brooksville, and in 1964 moved to a new location across from the old Lykes Memorial Hospital.  He would move to a new location next door in 1976.  He was an active member in various community organizations.  He passed away in 1981 from cancer.

Dr. John Hill Coppedge, Jr., was born in Geneva, New York.  He moved to Brooksville in 1955 and was a 1964 graduate of Hernando High School.  He attended St. Leo College, and is a 1969 graduate of the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.  In the beginning father and son were not certain Hernando county needed two optometrists.  But, the home building Mackle Brothers came to Hernando in the late 1960's and began the community of Spring Hill.  The father and son could see the potential growth in the area, so Dr. Coppedge, Jr. joined his Dad in practice.  The year was 1969.  Dr. Coppedge has been active in community organizations, such as Kiwanis Club of Brooksville, President of The Guidance Center of Hernando County (The Harbor), member of Faith Presbyterian Church and others.  He and his wife, Sharon, have three children.  They have twin sons, John Casey and Craig Hill, and daughter, Kalyn.  All three children are in their careers and have continued to bless the family with their marriage partners, Amanda, Allison, and Adam.  They are blessed with their grandchildren: Jackson, Abby, Hallie, Carina, and Keillor.

Casey CoppedgeDr. John Casey Coppedge is a native of Brooksville and a 1992 graduate of Hernando High School.  Casey is a graduate of the Florida State University College of Electrical Engineering.  He received a fellowship to the University of Southern California, and graduated with a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1998.  After working for TRW Space and Defense Systems, and other engineering firms, he decided to change careers.  One day he asked his Dad if he could "shadow" him in the office, and a new story began.  Casey graduated from the Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in 2007.  On the first day of school he met another new student, Amanda.  Thanks to that meeting they would eventually become husband and wife.  After moving to Brooksville he decided to start his own optometric practice with his father.  That practice is Coppedge Eyecare, LLC.  Dr. Coppedge is a member of Kiwanis of the Brooksville Ridge.

Dr. Amanda Coppedge was born and raised in Ventura, California.  She graduated from Buena High School in 1997.  She received her Bachelor's degree in Neuro-Science from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2002.  She graduated from the Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in 2007.  In 2006 she married John Casey Coppedge.


Dr. Coppedge, his wife, Sharon, and their five grandchildren, Jackson (7), Abby (6), Hallie (5), Carina, (14 months), and Keillor (13 months).
